The Federal Strategy · Section 2

When the Money Runs Out, the Sickness Doesn't.

Healthcare in the Virgin Islands runs on a broken promise. Unlike the fifty states, our territory faces an arbitrary federal cap on Medicaid funding. When that cap is reached, the bills don't stop, our hospitals are forced to absorb the loss, and the people pay the price in longer waits, fewer services, and care that too often has to be found off-island. Our veterans face the same federal neglect, forced to travel thousands of miles for benefits they have already earned.

Janelle's Federal Strategy

Fighting for Health Equity at the Federal Level

  • Lead the fight to permanently eliminate the federal Medicaid funding cap for the Virgin Islands.
  • Secure equitable federal reimbursement rates so our hospitals can stabilize and stay open.
  • Expand telehealth and local treatment options so residents don't have to travel off-island for care.
  • Fight to bring full veterans' services and facilities to the territory.
  • Champion public health equity for chronic disease, mental health, and preventive care.

When the federal Medicaid cap runs out, the bills don't disappear. Our hospitals are forced to absorb the loss.
