The Federal Strategy · Section 5
When the Ships Stop, We Eat What We Grow.
The Virgin Islands imports the overwhelming majority of its food. That leaves us dangerously exposed, one hurricane, one supply-chain shock, one shipping disruption, and shelves go empty while prices climb. Food security is not a luxury or an afterthought. It is a matter of survival and self-reliance. We must treat the strength of our local farmers and fishermen as the national-security issue it truly is.
Janelle's Federal Strategy
Strengthening Local Food and Self-Reliance
- Expand Virgin Islands access to USDA and federal agriculture programs.
- Secure federal investment in modern farming and fisheries infrastructure.
- Support our farmers and fishermen with the tools, training, and resources they need.
- Build a stronger, more self-sufficient local food system.
- Strengthen food supply resilience so we are ready for every storm season.
The Goal
A territory that can feed itself, in good times and in storms.
