The Federal Strategy · Section 4

An Economy That Can't Survive One Bad Tourism Season Isn't Strong Enough.

For too long, the Virgin Islands economy has rested on a single pillar: tourism. When that pillar shakes, a storm, a downturn, a pandemic, families feel it immediately. Meanwhile, labor shortages and shifting federal policies add more strain. We cannot build lasting prosperity on one industry alone. Real economic security means diversification, new industries, new opportunities, and a workforce prepared to fill them.

Janelle's Federal Strategy

Building an Economy Beyond Tourism

  • Pursue federal investment to diversify into technology, renewable energy, and the creative economy.
  • Expand access to federal small-business and commerce programs for local entrepreneurs.
  • Align workforce training directly with real, available jobs across emerging industries.
  • Support our cultural and creative industries as engines of local economic growth.
  • Advocate for federal incentives that bring diaspora professionals home to build careers here.
The Goal

A diversified, resilient economy that creates opportunity on every island.
